ilovecreatives Squarespace Design Course

I took the COURSE in 2020 and it took me a while to get this up, I didn’t think anyone would be interested but I had accidentally published a blog with the title and just “My thoughts” and someone had found it so maybe it’ll help you or someone else so here are my actual thoughts.

So the *pandemic* hit and my plans got thrown out the window and I didn’t know what to do. I had a degree in design and I wanted to start freelancing but I didn’t really know where to start.

My love for Myspace (iykyk) and Tumblr has always been there because that’s how I got into graphic design and also dipped my feet into web design. (who knew I was flirting with a six figure skill set at the age of 13.. I wish I had stuck to it this whole time lol) Anyways that’s a different story but when I stumbled across ilovecreatives and their Squarespace Design Course I got curious about web design again. I had seen Squarespace around especially my favorite Youtubers seemed to be sponsoring them so I was like, “you know what, maybe I’ll look into it.” Plus I wanted to know how Puno made $100k a year only working 2 hours a day.

Another thing that motivated me to take this course was that I would have people ask me to design a website  — which I could do, but then of course they wanted it built.. which I couldn’t do. If I was asked to design it, they’re going to need someone to help build it so why not be the person that can do both? I thought maybe now is a good time to learn, I wanted to add to my skill set and since I couldn’t leave the house anyways, why not learn something new?

PUNO & THE COURSE

Puno is so funny — I loved hopping onto lessons because it was entertaining and felt current. It felt like a friend helping me out. There’s gifs and the whole course is gamified which makes it fun! There’s also water breaks because hydration is important and it’s a good reminder to take a break.

She makes learning so fun and she gives you tools to make Squarespace not look so template-y. I took the course when 7.0 is only available, but it looks like it’s updated and includes 7.1 as well! I love that I have access to the course forever and it gets updated as Squarespace does too!

I was kind of nervous for the 1on1 design critique—reminded me of college days. But Puno is so nice! I love that they take into account your goals and style and not just their preference.

The exercises make you dive right into and get comfortable with Squarespace. She gives you the tools that will help you design in Squarespace.

THE TEAM

The TAs are so nice! At least the ones I interacted with.. They also respond quite quickly and are always willing to help. I got to know Erin (Fitzsimmons) the most because she helped me so much in level 3. She would help me troubleshoot and was always so nice and helpful!

RESOURCES LIBRARY

I still refer to it from time to time and when I do I love that it gets updated. You can reference for code snippets, live office hour calls recorded, and so many other helpful resources!

SLACK COMMUNITY

I love the Slack community! I check it out all the time. Everyone is always posting and sharing. There’s a gigs alert that can help you find your first or next clients! It’s also a great way to network and connect with other creatives. Also, the community is supportive! If you need a push/ support, you can definitely find people here to help you out.

FREELANCE PROCESS

I loved level 4 which gives you insight on how to freelance. She helps you get started with helpful information and documents like the Site Content Inventory and Client Contract. Also you’d be surprised about the market for designing Squarespace websites, at least I was. You could honestly book one client and make your money back.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you want to dip your feet into Squarespace Design, I would definitely check out this course! I hope this helped in some shape or form whether you decide to take it or not!
